Cause of Bladder Infections

Bladder Infections, UTI, Urinary Track Infections, is caused by bacteria. This bacteria is called Escherichia coli, or E coli for short. This bacteria passes through the urethra, the urine canal, into the bladder and causes the infection there. But it is not bacteria from another person. The bacteria involved is most often the bacteria found inside intestines or from the skin around the rectal or vaginal areas. Those areas of the body actually contains bacteria from fecal contamination.

Woman and Bladder Infections

Woman is more exposed to bladder infections than men. This is because of several reasons. The main reason is that the longer the urethra is, the more protected the bladder is. Beacuse of the penis men's urethra is several times longer than females, protecting their bladders. Women with short urethras, smaller than 40mm, are more exposed to infections in the bladder than women with longer rethras. Women is also more exposed for bladder infections caused by sexual intercourse. And belive it or not, tight jeans is also a risk-factor! Big warm trousers is however a great shield!
