
The Gall Bladder, Gallbladder or Cholecyst is a pear-shaped organ that can store about 50 mL of bile (gall) until the body needs it for its digestion. Various problems can occour with the Gallbladder (Gall Bladder). The most common problem is trouble with Gallstones.
The Gall Bladder, or Gallbladder or Cholecyst is about 10-12 cm long and appears as a dark green bladder. The color comes from its content, which is called bile or gall. The Gall Bladder is connected to the liver and to the duodenum by the biliary tract. The Gallbladder stores bile produced in the liver until it is time for the bile to digest fat.
The Gallbladder lies on the underside of the liver on the right side of the abdomen.
Gallstones is made of bile when the gallbladder is dysfunctional. Bile is made up by cholesterol, salts and bilirubin, and most gallstones is made up by cholesterol. Gallstones blocking the cystic or bile duct can be very painful.
