The Prostate - Do You Have A Bladder Problem?

For men problems to urinate and prolems with the bladder can be originating from the Prostate. It is quite common that men get these problems, expecially with age. Symtoms that the prostate is involved can be:

  • Difficulty starting to pass urine
  • Slow urine stream once urination has started
  • Need to pass urine more frequently
  • Incomplete emptying of the bladder
  • Loss of urinary control (incontinence)
  • Burning, discomfort or even pain while passing urine
  • Blood stained urine
  • What Causes Prostate Problems?

    There are several prostate conditions, and the most common are:

  • Prostatitis (inflammation)
  • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
  • Prostate cancer
  • Prostatitis (inflammation)

    This condition is special because it often affects younger men. Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland and may be associated with urinary tract infection.

    Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

    The prostate is a so called gland of about a walnut size and is only found in men. It is located below the neck of the bladder and are surrounding the bladder outlet and the urethra. It is responsible for producing the milky fluid needed to transport and nourishes the sperm upon ejaculation. As men age this prostate gland enlarges, and this enlargement can cause urinary symptoms and problems. For the majority of men this does not create any difficulties but about 25% of all men in the US will need operation because of this.

    Prostate cancer

    Prostate cancer may present initially without any symptoms and could be dangerous. It is a relatively common cancer which increases with age, but it is also usually one of the most responsive to treatment. It is impotant that you contact your doctor if you think you could have this condition!
